I recently had to give a lesson on the conference talk Cleansing the Inner Vessel by the apostle President Boyd K. Packer. After some study and reflection my eyes were really opened and I wanted to share with you some things I learned about protecting our homes and families from the addicting influence of pornography. In this talk Elder Packer said "We raise an alarm and warn members of the Church to wake up and understand what is going on. Parents, be alert, ever watchful that this wickedness might threaten our family circle." I don't know about you, but when an apostle of the Lord uses language such as raise a warning and wake up, I thought I better pay attention! In my research for this lesson I was told about a church sponsored website dedicated to fighting against pornography. I felt that many would probably see this as a site for only those who are currently having a problem. I am here to say this is not so. There is a section for parents, youth, leaders, individuals, and spouses. Under the section for parents there is information about how to protect your home, how to recognize a problem, what to do if your child has a problem, how to talk with your children, and much more. The other sections have information to all of your questions. Be sure to check out the family safety wiki that is on the front page of this website. Since I cannot write all of it here I will just direct you to this website and hope that as parents you will check it out and wake up to this growing plague. Elder Packer said, "In our day the dreadful influence of pornography is like unto a plague sweeping across the world, infecting one here and one there, relentlessly trying to invade every home, most frequently through the husband and father. The effect of this plague can be, unfortunately often is, spiritually fatal. Lucifer seeks to disrupt "the great plan of redemption, the great plan of happiness."
